Palestine v Chinese Taipei - Asian Games 2018

Bekasi: Hong Kong opened their 2018 Asian Games Group A campaign with a 3-1 win over Laos, while Palestine and Chinese Taipei played to a goalless draw on Friday.

LAOS 1-3 HONG KONG

Laos made the first attempt of the game, with Phouthone Innalay missing the target in the third minute, but it was Hong Kong whi opened the scoring with Cheng Chin Lung finding the back of the net in the 20th minute.

In the 40th minute, Hong Kong's Tan Chun Lok doubled their tally to go into the break with a 2-0 lead.

A minute into the second half, Phithack Kongmathilath came close to reducing Laos' deficit but his shot missed the target.

However, his persistence paid off in the 62nd minute when he etched his name on the scoresheet.

Laos pushed for the equaliser but eventually fell to Lathasay Lounlasy's 86th minute own goal.

Hong Kong will look to continue their winning form against fellow East Asian's Chinese Taipei, while Laos will have to bounce back with a win as they face Palestine next.

PALESTINE 0-0 CHINESE TAIPEI

In the opening minutes of the match, Chinese Taipei began aggressively while Palestine slowly found their footing.

Despite the pouring rain at the Patriot Chandrabhaga Stadium, Palestine began to take control of the game as they made the most attempts on goal in the first half but Chinese Taipei goalkeeper Pan Wenchieh steadily denied them to keep the score goalless going into the break.

The deadlock continued well into the second half and by the 78th minute, Pen Wushung's side had made two substitutions while Palestine had made three but both sides continued seeking for the tie-breaker.

In the final 10 minutes, Palestine had several shots on target, but all their strikes lacked the finishing touch as Chinese Taipei held firm to earn a point.
